Ragged London
The Life of London’s Poor
Michael Fitzgerald
To be published 25th July 2011, £14.99 Paperback, 978-0-7524-6005-5
Looks at the ingenuity and courage of the poor living in London
Although life was a constant struggle against famine, disease and violence the people enjoyed a
closeness that was more than the result of overcrowding. Their lives were lived entirely within the ‘mean streets’ of their little corner of London. They were born and raised within the rookeries, earned their living, enjoyed life, dressed in the latest fashion, got married, had children, died and were buried there. The lack of cooking facilities led to them inventing the ‘takeaway.’ It was a closed world although the population explosion of nineteenth-century London led to millions of new arrivals in the already congested rookery districts.
 Though life was cheap in the rookeries of London they produced some of the best soldiers and
sailors in the British armed forces.
 Ragged London describes the rookeries where around forty people lived together in one room.
 Perfect for anyone interested in London’s social history.
 Author is an award-winning writer.
 Looks at the appalling conditions in which people lived, and describes their daily struggle to
survive.
 Previously unpublished material from primary sources to shed new light on social conditions.

This week in the "Daily Mirror"

I notice that the "Daily Mirror" is carrying a piece entitled "Close Encounters of the Third Reich" which deals with the weird and wacky semi and pseudo-scientific projects carried out under the Nazis.

For those who wish to investigate further, my book "Hitler's Occult War," published in 2009 by Robert Hale, goes into detail about many of these subjects.

I also appeared on a Discovery Channel programme on the subject in 2008 and in April of this year was interviewed about them by Clive Anderson on Radio 4.

New York Book Expo

I was at the London Book Fair to promote "American Destiny: From Adam to Obama" and had a good conversation with a nice lady from my publisher.

The New York fair is coming up shortly - any buyers please watch out for my book!

New e-book

"American Destiny: From Adam to Obama" is now available as an e-book. It can be downloaded either in the Kindle or Nook formats.

Those who prefer an electronic version of my book can now obtain it.

New book out, another on the way

My most recent book, "American Destiny: From Adam to Obama," was published at the end of February.

I was at the London Book Fair this week helping to publicise it.

I was also recently interviewed on Radio 4 by Clive Anderson about my previous work, "Hitler's Occult War."

In June my next work, "Ragged London: The Story of the London Poor" will also be coming out.
